Life drawing as a celebration of life force and physicality
In drawing the figure I want to express something of the energy and life force of the subject. Working with different materials and approaches, through spontaneous mark making, I aim to render a positive affirmation of the person. I hope, through capturing the energy of the mark or, perhaps, the impulse between eye and hand, to recreate on the surface a possibility of a breathing, living person. If I can make marks which create just the possibility, I can begin this journey.
Nicki Rolls is a London based artist. She works in paint, film, video and installation. She studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, 2005, and in 2011 completed her Masters in Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art. For the past 7 years she has run life drawing workshops in South West London and is co-founder of Art Inc. which provides art based activities for adults, students and children.
